About Us
Every successful individual knows that his or her achievement depends on a community of persons working together.
Originally, the Mental Health Association of Volusia County was organized in 1952. In 1999, the Debra Ann House was acquired through a generous donation. In 2010, the name was changed to the Mental Health America of East Central Florida to reflect the expanding community we serve and to affiliate with our parent organization, National Mental Health America.
Today, MHA has established itself as the distinctive voice on mental illness in East Central Florida through increasing awareness that mental health is an integral part of overall health. Our education, advocacy and supportive services and programs work to strengthen the lives of those suffering from a mental illness, their families who love and support them and the communities in which they reside.
MHA is an affiliate of Mental Health America and participates in Florida Mental Health America. Our service area covers East Central Florida including Volusia and Flagler counties.
MHA is funded through LSF (Lutheran Services Florida) Health Systems, the Florida Department of Children and Families and other grants and contracts. Membership dues, donations and fund raising events also allow us to continue to offer a wide variety of services to the community.
MHA provides services to Volusia and Flagler counties in Central Florida. In 2008, services have been expanding into Putnam and St. Johns counties as well due to changes in the Department of Children and Families service area.
Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO) has been, and will continue to be, a fundamental principle at The Organization, where employment is based upon personal capabilities and qualifications without discrimination because of race, color, religion, sex, age, national origin, disability, sexual orientation, or any other protected characteristic as established by law.
This policy of Equal Employment Opportunity applies to all policies and procedures relating to recruitment and hiring, compensation, benefits, termination and all other terms and conditions of employment.
The President/CEO and CFO has overall responsibility for this policy and maintains reporting and monitoring procedures. Employees’ questions or concerns should be referred to The President/CEO and the CFO.
Appropriate disciplinary action may be taken against any employee willfully violating this policy.
Employment opportunities with this Organization are based on the individual’s ability to do the job. We recognize our moral and legal obligation to employ qualified disabled individuals. It is our goal to make reasonable accommodations when necessary to aid the employment and advancement of disabled workers who are qualified to perform essential job functions.
A qualified employee with a disability is encouraged to request an accommodation if needed to perform the job tasks more effectively. Make your request to The President/CEO and CFO. The President/CEO and CFO will then meet with you to discuss your disability in relation to the duties of your job.
